3 Drawbacks of Living in Remote & Suburban Neighborhoods

Living in a remote or suburban area (or even in a rural one) can offer plenty of advantages. You might like the quiet, knowing your neighbors, and the freedom to pursue big projects on your own place. However, for as many advantages as you might get, the drawbacks are there too, and they need to be understood ahead of time.

Now, all of these drawbacks can be overcome with the right mindset and some forward planning, but before you move to a remote neighborhood, you need to keep an eye out for problems.

1. Lack of Qualified Handymen

Whether you’re in a remote area or suburbia, you’ll find that there are some home issues you might need help with. You could be a good DIYer and pretty handy with tools and fixing small problems, but some jobs need an expert. At the very least a lot of them might need an extra set of hands!

But whenever you are in a remote area, you’ll find those experts can be harder to come by. For example, if you need assistance with door replacement services in NJ, you might need to outsource for help. This either means paying more for the work, or having to wait longer for the problem to be solved than for those in city centers. While it might not be a dealbreaker if you are able to fix the problem yourself, you do need to be aware of the lack of help if you aren’t particularly handy.

2. Distance From Services

Sure, you might move to a remote or suburban neighborhood to get away from everything, but that’s only great until you need to get somewhere fast! Having a 30-minute drive to the grocery store or to the nearest hospital or bank can become a problem if you need to move quickly.

Additionally, if you do have an emergency, it can be difficult for emergency services to get to you whenever you need them. Most emergency services do have contingencies in place for this so they can respond quickly, but arrival time is something to consider.

3. Can Be A Slower Style Of Life

Life in the suburbs or life in the middle of nowhere offers some real relaxation. You can simply kick back, know that no one will bother you, and all the stress can melt away. However, even for the most dedicated of introverts, the slower style of life can be a drawback after a while.

Whether you miss your friends, have run out of things to do in the suburbs, or simply miss that there are more events and things to do in the city, you need to make sure you are aware of reality.

It can get a little lonely and boring out in the suburbs, but that might motivate you to become more inventive with how you have fun. Or it might get you to head back to the city and enjoy the time you spend there all the more.

Know The Pros and Cons Before You Move

Don’t be afraid to have a deep understanding of the pros and cons of this type of living before you make a decision to move out of the city. The more that you know and the more you are prepared for the advantages and disadvantages, the better your situation will be. Then you can focus on making the most of the time you spend outside of the hustle and bustle of the city. And there’s a lot of good that can come from that!
