I want you to meet Dave Fink. He's a guy who has made welding part of his life
0:06
and I've got permission from him to include some projects of his later in
0:10
the course. At the end of the course you'll get full plans and instructions on how to build his stuff but for now I just wanted to give you a little
0:16
overview so you can kind of get excited about some of the things that you can
0:19
make. This is a picnic table that Dave put together. The base is made of
0:25
two-inch square tubing and it's quite an easy project to build. It's impressive
0:32
and it's also very useful for a lot of people. The big attraction is that
0:36
the superstructure won't ever rot. You still get to eat on wood but where
0:43
the thing counts structurally and in terms of rot resistance you've got steel
0:47
that takes care of things. These are the plans for building the picnic table. You
0:53
can download these and print them, take them into your shop. There's also a
0:57
materials list when you get this far further in the course. I especially like
1:02
this little project. It's a wood stove. It's made from an old 30 pound propane
1:07
tank and it does a great job. A lot of fun. You're going to get quite a
1:12
connection with this if you build one. There's nothing like a wood stove. Keep
1:16
you warm in your shop. You really come to like it especially when you've built one
1:20
yourself from scratch like this. Here in the plans I want to point out a couple
1:25
of things. The door is entirely shop-built as part of the instructions
1:31
you're going to get. Same with the top. There's an interesting technique at the
1:35
top called plug welding and we're going to be getting into that along with a lot
1:41
of other techniques that you need to build something like this. If you've
1:45
ever tried to cook over an open fire you know the process is not all that precise
1:50
and controllable. This barbecue grill stand here helps to solve that problem
1:55
It sits on top of a campfire. The two grills are removable so you can take
2:00
them inside, keep them clean and rust-free if you want, but it just lets
2:04
you make use of summertime cooking outdoors and a lot of family
2:10
togetherness and some good times can be had around this grill. Once again from
2:15
the plans you can see that it's a pretty simple project. There's just a basic
2:19
welding of angle iron and square stock and some round shaft as well for
2:27
making the grill, but the 3D view, the front and side views give you
2:33
everything you need as you'll see later on in the course. The final project here
2:38
is an outboard motor transport cart. So if you've got a cottage or you live by a
2:44
lake you know that the seasonally bringing the motor up and down from the
2:48
lake can be a hassle and that's where this cart comes in. It also is a great
2:52
place to store the motor during the offseason. You might notice at the bottom
2:58
there's some handles as well and that's to make the job of using this cart over
3:04
rough terrain a little easier. You can get two people working on the project
3:08
and it just rolls more smoothly even over some pretty rough ground because of
3:13
the large bicycle type wheels there. So stay tuned. The last week in this course
3:19
is where you'll find all these projects along with some more detailed
3:23
explanatory videos, but I wanted you to see all these projects now just to get
3:28
you a little excited maybe build some motivation and some enthusiasm as you go
3:34
through learning the steps, learning the secrets, the tricks, the tips for MIG
3:39
welding really well
