One of the challenges that you'll face at the end of a cabinet building project
0:04
sounds pretty simple but it can be very troublesome and that's getting the door
0:11
and drawer knob holes located just right. The slightest little bit of mismatch
0:16
from one knob to another especially with adjoining doors can make everything look
0:22
terrible and there's no easy way to fix it after the fact. So to avoid trouble
0:27
the first thing you need to do is to forget your tape measure. No steel rulers
0:33
no tape measures no measuring of any sort because you will always get it a
0:38
little bit wrong and even if you don't get the marks a little bit wrong the
0:43
drilling will never be exactly where you want it to be because without some sort
0:47
of a guide the drill bit is going to shift a little bit. Even a 32nd of an
0:54
inch you can see with your eye and it's a very disappointing situation so that's
0:58
why you want to make up a little bit of a drilling jig. It doesn't have to be
1:02
fancy this is about the least fancy drilling jig you can imagine but it does
1:08
something very important. It regulates the drilling of the screw hole for a
1:14
knob from the edge and the bottom of a drawer of a door or drawer face. So here's
1:23
how it works it has a ledge on one side and then there's a hole drilled where I
1:27
want the knob hole to go. So we just simply align this up tight to the edge
1:34
and flush to the bottom and then we can we're free to drill our hole here
1:45
Now that's not only faster than measuring holes for a whole bunch of
1:50
cabinets but when there's an adjoining door here we can just simply use the jig
1:56
on the other side. It's interchangeable it works on both one side or the other
2:02
and since there's no measuring and there's no chance that the drill bit
2:07
will wander once it's following this hole you can be assured of very fast and
2:13
accurate drilling from one door to the next
