Now, most bandsaws benefit from having a variety of blades on hand
0:05
And in this video I want to show you how to fold a bandsaw blade so that it's easy to store
0:12
Something like this. Now, even if you have a very small bandsaw, and let's say it can only run a quarter inch wide blade
0:19
you're still going to want to have more than one of those blades on hand because you don't want to have your work progress stopped because you've hit a nail
0:26
or something hard that's ruined the blade. Every bandsaw needs different blades, and this is how you fold them into this storable position
0:36
You don't need to wear gloves necessarily. I mean, it takes all the risk out of it
0:40
But I've never cut myself folding these blades by hand without gloves on
0:45
But, you know, gloves are probably a good idea. When you're undoing a blade that's been folded up like this, you want to be careful
0:52
There's a certain amount of springiness to it, and it's going to want to kind of do its own thing a bit as it undoes
0:59
But here we go. That's a blade, a bandsaw blade, as you put it on the saw or take it off
1:05
And folding it is a pretty simple operation. It's actually harder to do than it looks, so I'm going to go into detail here
1:13
so you can have a good likelihood of succeeding. First of all, position the blade on the ground with the teeth facing away from you, like it is now
1:20
and put one foot on the blade. Now grab the blade with two hands
1:25
Okay, my palms are up and my thumbs are out. And I'm going to fold it in
1:33
So I'm folding it in, but I'm also turning it down. See, that's the move
1:38
This is pretty well all the extent that I can put my hands this way
1:43
and I'm ending up with my hands all the way the other way
1:48
So that's the move. And, oops, sorry. That's the move right there
1:56
And then you can just equalize the loops, and you're all set
2:02
So I'll do that one more time. It's really, that's the move right there
2:11
If you do that, that's all you have to remember. And then it goes together
2:20
And it'll hang together. It'll hang on a nail or a peg in your shop
2:25
or maybe it's small enough now to go in the cabinet underneath the bandsaw, but there you go
2:30
Give it a try and practice it a bit, and it'll be second nature in no time
