What is the white, powdery substance on my basement floor?

basement, small amounts of moisture are moving in and drying. Along with the water there’s also a load of dissolved minerals. When the water dries, it leaves the minerals behind. After enough builds up, you see it as white fuzz. Fill the crack around the floor with a bead of polyurethane caulking, then coat the floor and walls with waterproof basement paint. That should do the trick.
