In this video tip, I want to show you the finer points of building the composite table
0:05
You'll find plans for this in the eBook. That's the long bottom skirt, the long top skirt
0:11
These are the legs, of course. They measure 3 1⁄2 inches by 3 1⁄2 inches, and they're solid treks
0:19
Over here you have the end skirts, bottom and top, and the top slats that form the working
0:26
surface of the table. Notice how the end skirts are flush with the outside edges of the legs
0:34
You build both frames this way, and then you join them with the long skirts, top and bottom
0:42
Notice how they extend out past the end skirts. This makes it easy to do a good-looking job
0:52
Also the bottom ends of the legs are rounded to prevent splintering, and underneath the
0:58
top here, you can't see it, but it's shown on the plans, there are some cross pieces
1:03
that provide extra support for the top. The composite lumber is not strong, so it does need some help resisting downward forces
1:10
It stops the top from bending. Now, I built this table with nails
1:18
I'd probably do it again with screws. The nails work fine, along with the adhesive, but screws just help to pull things in together
1:25
better that way. Build the top, and you've got a nice finished table
