Now, unless you've bought a used bandsaw, the machine you have will probably look like this when it arrives, all packaged up
0:08
Different assembly procedures are going to be different depending on the kind of model you bought
0:12
But bandsaws are all pretty much the same, so it's not going to vary a whole lot. So let's open this box up and let's see what we have inside
0:22
If you have assembled machines before, then there's probably nothing that I'm going to say here that's going to be of help to you
0:33
But maybe this is the first time you've cracked open a brand new machine
0:38
One of the things you're going to notice is to keep these things from rusting as they get shipped halfway around the world
0:44
They're always kind of greasy. So this is the main table here, and it's covered in plastic
0:52
We're going to have to do some degreasing here in time, but I'll just set it aside for the moment
0:58
Always lots of styrofoam with these things. Now these tools like this come from a long way away generally and it's not unusual for little things to fall off
1:15
So just keep your eyes open I don know where these go yet but we will certainly find out soon Now if you don have anyone to help you lift something heavy out of a box the best option is to just cut the corn that like this
1:37
So you can just fold the box down. First, you want to be careful as you cut
1:42
There's usually plenty of styrofoam packing. So you're probably not going to run into the machine itself, but keep here on it
1:51
This might look daunting, but it's going to go out of the manual
2:10
This might look daunting, but it's going to go together pretty easily, especially when we follow the manual
2:19
But for now, we just want to get all the parts out. and all the packing material gotten out of our way
2:26
One of the biggest advantages you can give yourself whenever you assembling any kind of a machine tool like this is after you got all the packaging out of the way you want to open up the packages so you can see all the parts but there a reason why they package things together because they all kind of go together in the final assembly so when you take them out of the bag just leave them in groups
3:03
I've never assembled this particular band saw before but So I don't really know where all these parts go off the top of my head, but the manual will show us
3:15
You can see this is the base here
3:30
That band saw is a lot lower than it needs to be
4:09
I going to Well we done with the unboxing and the assembly already now
4:24
Just before I forget, I did clean off some of the shipping grease here, but cast iron is
4:31
quite susceptible to rusting and you don't want to have a beautiful surface to pick up any rust
4:36
So this is just standard for all woodworking machines. You basically just
4:41
wipe on as thin a layer of machine oil as you possibly can and it won't, it won't harm your wood
4:50
It won't interfere with any finishes. It just stops it from rusting
4:54
Now this machine looks like it's ready to go but it's not. The thing about bandsaws is that as I have
5:01
say they're kind of like violins and that you need to tune them to get them to work properly
5:06
And when they're tuned well, that's when the magic happens. So coming up next, I'm going to be showing you how we tune a bandsaw generically
5:14
So all the tuning procedures are basically the same. The details are going to vary
5:19
But this is what bandsaw operation is all about and can't wait to show you how it all works together
