Duct cleaning is one of the most oversold services in the home services industry, and also one of the most genuinely useful. Both statements are true, which is exactly why homeowners find the topic so confusing. There is a version of this service that solves a real problem, and there is a version that is 45 minutes of theater with a shop vacuum and a printed invoice.
The difference comes down to why you are doing it. That is where the conversation should start, before anyone quotes a price. The Bigger Problem Nobody Is Selling You

Sit with that number. You can have surgically clean ductwork that wastes roughly a quarter of everything your air conditioner produces.
