WOODWORKING HANDSAW TRICK: See How a Reflection Helps Make Square Cuts

A good handsaw is quiet and makes almost no airborne dust. This is one reason hand saws are perfect for beginners. Another reason is speed. Surprisingly, hand saws are often faster than a power saw when you need to make just a  few cuts.  You might also find that a  handsaw is particularly useful in the lumber store parking lot as you’re trying to get wood into your vehicle to take home.

That’s me cutting a 2×12 with my favourite hand saw. This tool and others is part of my online course Woodworking for Beginners.

The video below is from my Woodworking for Beginners course and includes a tour of an exceptional hand saw and how to use it accurately and quickly.   Watch the video below to see how a reflection from the side of a shiny saw helps ensure square cuts.

If you know nothing about woodworking but have an interest in learning more and possibly taking my online course, join my free woodworking community exclusively for beginners. I’ve put together resources to help you learn the basics and choose some essential tools. Community members also get an early-bird discount on the  online course – Woodworking for Beginners.

I like to keep my online courses small and personal to make sure that everyone gets the support and help they really need. So as much as I like to help everyone, I can only accept a small number of new students right now while still maintaining the level of support that’s needed. Please understand that this is a genuinely rare opportunity, and spots will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Some people will be shut out because there’s only so much room. This is literally the best program I’ve ever created for woodworking and it won’t surprise me if it sells out in a few hours after registration opens. So keep your eyes open and jump on board as soon as registration opens. Join the community and you’ll be the first to know.
