Well, we're here in my basement and I want to show you my hydrogen peroxide injection
0:14
system for our household water. You're not going to see something like this too often, but there are some distinct advantages
0:22
to this and I'm going to show you what they are and how the system works
0:26
It starts with this drum of 35% hydrogen peroxide. Now that's pretty corrosive
0:35
If you were to touch that, you'd get a burn on your skin
0:38
So it's something to take seriously. But when it's added to drinking water, to household water in small quantities, it does
0:48
two important things. First of all, it kills all kinds of microbes, so it sterilizes the water, and it does this
0:56
without chlorine, which is a great thing because hydrogen peroxide is nothing but H2O2
1:02
So it's like a water molecule with an extra oxygen atom tacked on, and that makes it highly
1:11
oxidizing and that kills all kinds of microbes. So that's one reason for hydrogen peroxide
1:17
The second is that it's super effective at eliminating sulfur water. So that's the rotten egg smell that comes from water from some kinds of wells
1:29
We don't have sulfur water problems here. I got this as a supplement
1:34
Our water tests fine, but I wanted to purify it, so that's why we're using hydrogen peroxide here
1:40
But it is the only way I know of to get rid of that rotten egg smell, and it does that
1:45
very effectively too. Anyway, that's the drum, and the hydrogen peroxide, full concentrate, 35%, is drawn
1:56
up through this pipe by this injection pump. This can be used for injecting a whole bunch of different things
2:05
It just happens to be hooked up here, and when it turns on, it draws small quantities
2:11
of hydrogen peroxide in here, and it injects it in here. This is the manifold that does different things in my water system
2:21
Incoming water's coming through here, and it rounds this bend and goes into the pressure tank
2:27
This is the pressure switch. So as soon as the pump is energized, this injection pump is energized as well
2:34
So when the submersible pump gets power, this gets power, and it starts running at the same time
2:40
And the hydrogen peroxide is injected into the incoming water stream, and it goes into
2:46
the pressure tank with the water. Now this injector pump, it's adjustable
2:55
This ring moves. I can rotate this ring to vary the amount of hydrogen peroxide that's injected
3:02
And what I'm aiming for is about 25 parts per million. I have some paper, like litmus paper, that tells me what the concentration is
3:12
And so at the current setting, it's what I want, and it works quite well
3:17
Now to be fully effective for removing sulfur in a sulfur water situation, and for removing
3:26
all kinds of smells and odors and tastes, I've combined the hydrogen peroxide system
3:33
with this whole house carbon filter. So this is filled mostly with granulated carbon, and the water flows through it, and then it
3:46
flows through the house. I can bypass this if I want, so we can just get straight water with a little bit of hydrogen
3:54
peroxide in it. And there's some people that'll tell you that there's health benefits to that, and I believe
3:59
them too. You can taste a little bit of a different taste when you're drinking the unfiltered water
4:08
So most of the time we run it with the carbon filter in operation
4:13
But that's how it all works in a nutshell, and it certainly serves us well
4:19
And it's especially useful if you have a well that has some kind of contamination, some
4:24
kind of bacteria contamination, or you've got a sulfur water situation that you want
4:30
to rectify. Thanks for watching. Click here to join the thousands of people who get the Bailey Line Road Hands-On How-To
