In this video, I want to touch on the four steps for establishing a year-long food supply
0:07
This is kind of an overview of the first section of the course, the first week of the course
0:13
and there's lots of material here to cover. The first one, the first exercise I'm going to suggest that you do is to map out your food strategy
0:22
So this involves determining your true food needs, the kind of food that you can both put away and enjoy
0:29
and enjoy, so we get a sense of that. You also need to understand that we're talking about a situation here where there will be lots
0:38
of disruptions. I mean, if you need an emergency food supply, then there's lots of other things in the world
0:45
that are very much unnormal and you're going to need to expect that and think about your
0:52
food supply and your plans with that in mind. One of the things it's worth touching on is the need to either hide your food supply or defend it
1:07
Now, I'm not saying that you should hoard your food. I think that you need to make plans to be able to share something
1:14
It's just the right thing to do. It the morally good thing to do But no matter how much you put away you will never be able to meet the needs of everyone So this is one reason why I recommend you keep your plans quiet as you putting
1:32
them together. You might get excited about this whole food thing. And if you're excited, then you're
1:39
likely to want to talk to people about it. And that's just the way people are. We like to share things
1:44
we're excited about. In this case though, I recommend that you avoid that because as I said
1:51
hiding your food supply and ultimately being able to defend it is kind of part of the equation
1:57
here. So just to give you an overview here, this food supply issue is about accumulation, so
2:08
storing food ahead of time and keeping it a good condition and also about production too
2:14
If you're in a position where you can grow something or raise a few animals, then that's
2:19
going to go a long way to improving the quality of your diet when you can't buy food
2:25
in the regular ways. So production is something we're going to get into
2:30
Small scale survival, food production, different than hobby gardening. And I'm going to be touching on that and helping you to develop the infrastructure that
2:39
you need in order to pull something like this off So step two is all about identifying how much food you really need and what kinds of food Later in the course I going to be leading you through what I call the four day food supply trial
2:55
which is a great exercise and it's going to help you to answer a lot of questions
2:59
You're going to have to start by identifying what's called the basal metabolic rate
3:06
so in calories. So that's essentially how many calories. how many calories you need per person in the household that you're trying to supply with this exercise
3:17
There are multiplication factors involved too, so depending on the level of activity and things you want to adjust this
3:23
These are all exercises you do as part of figuring out how much food you need
3:30
Tallying it up, coming up with a total daily caloric requirement. And then step three
3:38
learning from your four-day food trial. So what I'm recommending, and I'll go into a lot more detail later
3:46
is that you try out your food supply for a four-day period of time
3:50
That's long enough for you to get a real sense of what it's like to live with this sort of thing
3:55
but also short enough that you're not going to spend a lot of time
4:00
a lot of unnecessary time doing that. So the trial is very useful and I recommend that you go through that exercise The Spartan the peasant and the king These are the three levels of food supply you can prepare for yourself
4:16
depending on how much effort and resources you want to put into it
4:20
Now step four is understanding the five food strategies. And by this I mean how you're going to store food that you've put away
4:32
but also how you're going to store and preserve foods that you might produce while you're living off of your food supply
4:41
So that would include canning, freezing, drying, curing and smoking, mostly meat, and then also root cellaring
4:49
Later in the course, there are detailed plans and examples and instructions for how you can produce all these things if you want to
4:59
And, you know, most importantly, you have to understand that this is an actual real course
5:04
And I'm standing by to answer your questions. And I'm sure you will have specific questions
5:10
about what's involved, because every situation is unique. So feel free, contact me through the interface in this course
5:17
and I will lead you through. That's what these courses are all about
5:21
It's about detailed, trustworthy knowledge and information and also a real person like me to lead you through things
