About 10 years ago I became aware of a new kind of cleaning chemistry to replace old
0:13
school bleaches. It was oxygen based and a bunch of different companies came out with their version of it
0:19
and I was pretty impressed. It worked very well and it wasn't toxic in any way
0:25
So those first wave of oxygen based cleaners were based on a powder, something like this here
0:33
I've used this before, it's called mold stain eraser and you can see the powder here kind
0:40
of looks like laundry detergent and you dissolve it in water. It takes a little while, 10 or 15 or 20 minutes to dissolve and then you just put it on the
0:50
stained surface. So this has worked very well in the past but there's a new family, a new generation of
0:58
oxygen based cleaners that are easier to use and actually a little bit more effective and
1:02
that's what I want to show you now. The next generation of oxygen based cleaners that I've found have two liquid parts that
1:10
work together. This is called dual blast, it's the latest that I've found and the most effective too
1:17
and it comes with a jug, it comes in a jug that is divided right down the middle so there's
1:24
no dissolving powder. You just tip it up this way so that both sides of the jug are on each side of the opening
1:33
and you just pour some in. Equal parts come out and it's pretty well self-mixing
1:41
You might want to slosh it around a little bit but that product is now ready to go and
1:46
I want to show you how it works on some of this weathered wood
1:52
There's gray weathering here, there's some mildew, there might be some mold and I'm always
1:57
surprised at how well these kind of oxygen based cleaners work. They brighten the wood but they also don't remove the natural wood green patterns so
2:09
in a sense not only are they safer than bleach but these oxygen based products actually do
2:14
a better job. Now the nice thing about these products is that they revert to water and oxygen after
2:21
a period of time so you have a couple of hours to use it and I mean there's no, you can see
2:26
it foaming up there, that's releasing some of the oxygen compounds and it takes a little
2:35
while for this to work but you can see that it is working and it is completely safe
2:41
You can brush it on, there's no burning, there's no issues at all
2:46
You just have to get this stuff on within that two hour period of time because after
2:53
that it's kind of like Cinderella, her carriage is going to turn to a pumpkin and this stuff
3:00
is going to turn to oxygen and water which is what you want
3:05
There's nothing harmful about that but you do have that window of time where you have
3:09
to get the job done so I'm just going to let that sit for a while and then we'll come back
3:14
a little bit later, hose it off and you'll be able to see the difference that it makes
3:21
So here you can see the results. Earlier in the video it was morning when I brushed this stuff on and I've left it all
3:30
morning long. It's now after lunch. I've been going about my business and come back and this is the result
3:36
There's no scrubbing here, this is just the natural reaction of the Dual Blast to this
3:43
grey weathered wood. There's still a little bit of discoloration here but it's mostly gone and you'll see that
3:49
the knots still retain their colour and you can still see the wood grain here which is
3:56
not something that you see with bleach. It just makes everything a whole lot lighter in a bland sort of way
4:04
There you have it. Oxygen based cleaners at their best. Thanks for watching
