Few people plane rough lumber by hand any more, and that’s a shame. With a well-sharpened hand plane you can make small quantities of rough lumber smooth, all without noise and dust (lots of shavings, though!). The desk I built below was made entirely with rough lumber made smooth with the same hand plane you’ll see in this video.
