Where can I find a hand pump for priming my seasonal cottage water system? I’m ready to follow your previous articles on priming from the end of the water intake line, but I can’t find any kind of a hand pump for making it happen.

The pump I’ve used for priming is called the Guzzler. You can buy them from various places, but an online, Ontario-based source is www.handpumps.com. I’ve used the Guzzler 500 model and it works well for priming. The overall system uses ordinary plumbing fittings to create a port that allows water to be injected from the bottom end of the intake line, filling the pipe and the pump easily. This is a much faster method than priming a pump in the usual way, by carrying buckets of water up from the lake and pouring it down a small hole in the top of the pump. Be sure to look at a full description of the entire set-up and operation process.
